Overview

Our Medicine course has been designed to be a comprehensive, interactive course for the doctors of tomorrow. During this course, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the world of medicine, through the theoretical and practical skills involved in being a doctor. Students will focus on the study of human biology, the analysis of patient symptoms and the response of key medical issues. As well as receiving a certificate and report at the end of their stay, students will leave with a First Aid qualification.

We have created our Medicine programme at Oxford College Summer School for the doctors of tomorrow. Course Objectives

  • To broaden an understanding of medical pathologies, procedures and practices.
  • To critically analyse and discuss a variety of contemporary medical issues.
  • To improve presentation skills in order to form clear, cogent arguments.
  • To develop key soft skills essential for successful patient care.
  • To conduct research to identify symptoms, analyse findings and diagnose patients.
  • To gain vital practical medical skills during certified First Aid training.
  • To improve all-round confidence in using English communicatively.

Medical Response to Patient Symptoms

Throughout the course students will run through hypothetical and practical situations, in order to develop their ability to identify symptoms, analyse findings and diagnose their patients. Our Medicine students will carry out tests, draw conclusions and present their findings to their fellow consultants.


Critical Response to Key Medical Issues

It is of great importance for our Medicine students to consider the role of medical professionals in a wider, ethical context. Throughout the course students will look at topical issues involving public health and medical ethics and will develop key skills in presenting their own ideas and forming clear, cogent arguments. This should enable students to feel well equipped to deal with ethical medical questions, both in a university and professional setting.
