Critical thinking plays a vital role too and this is a central component of the University Preparation course. In addition, students will also develop their academic writing skills, such as structuring an essay, revising, editing and referencing skills.

Key Skills: Academic Listening and Speaking

Our University Preparation students will be shown how to develop key lecture, research and note-taking skills, to prepare them for the structure of university tuition. They will be shown how to record what they have learnt and participate in the lessons to the fullest of their ability, as well as developing research and independent study skills. Effective communication techniques are key to success at university. Therefore students will look at how to form and present clear and cogent arguments during discussion and debates in their seminars.

University Application: Personal Statement and Interviews

During the course students will look at how to submit a UCAS application, learn tips and techniques on what makes a good personal statement and understand what makes a successful interview in an academic context. Students will also benefit from personalised sessions with expert applications advisors, to assist them with university applications after their summer course.
